REU: Data Science, Number Theory, and Positional Game Theory
Summers of 2020 and 2021 Occidental College |

** Description: ** During the summers of 2020 and 2021 Occidental College will host an eight week REU focusing on data science, number theory, numerical analysis,
and positional game theory. Students will be paid a stipend of $4,000, be reimbursed up to $500 for travel to and from the REU, and
provided with housing and meals on the campus of Occidental College. The program will run June 7 - August 1, 2020, with students arriving June 7 and departing August 1.

Note that to be eligible for funding students MUST be US citizens or permanent residents.

The REU is funded by the NSF (DMS-1852001).

**Faculty Advisors:**

Treena Basu will be supervising projects in data science and numerical analysis.

Jim Brown will be supervising projects in coding theory and number theory.

Eric Sundberg will be supervising projects in positional game theory. |

**Same Problems:**

- Data Science Problems: Applications of Data Science to Students' College Decision Making Process
- Number Theory Problems:
- Numerical Analysis Problems: Second-Order Accurate Fast Numerical Solutions to the Two-Dimensional Space-Fractional Diffusion Equation
- Positional Game Theory Problems: Exremal hypergraphs for the Erdos-Selfridge theorem in positional game theory
